"oh my my! what a day! I wish the rain would go away" well no way! in Florence, the rain is still lovely, and there's still many things to do.

Ever looked outside your window and though "what a bad day, it's raining, my plans are ruined", well too bad! even when it's raining there's still plenty of things to do in Florence, so no excuses! That's why I decided to make a small list and share some ideas in order to enjoy the city as much as possible, even when the weather is not at its best.

Museums

Museums are always the perfect choice in Florence, and when it's raining, it's even more perfect. The city is full of them, it's impossible to not find one that will match your interest. If you are into paintings, go to Uffizi or Palazzo Pitti. If you prefer sculptures or architecture the Bargello and the Galleria dell'accademia are made for you. If you enjoy contemporary art, the Palazzo Strozzi offers amazing exhibitions. Finally if you wish to go off the beaten track, the Convento di San Marco, is a small gem, don't miss it.

Cafés

Although it seems pretty obvious to go to a café when it rains, I still believe it's a nice experience, whether you're alone with a good book or with a friend chatting and eating some Italian pastries. In Florence, there's plenty of cute cafés, so please, don't go to the touristic ones on the main square which not only costs way more, but are not always typical. Try the small ones, for they are most of the time places where locals meets. Some of my favorites include Simbiosi, Caffè Lietta and Rooster Café.

Theater, dance, music performances.

If you want to take shelter from the rain, this might me a nice choice. Florence is a cultural city, meaning not only it has great museums, but also a diversified offer in terms of events. Indeed, you can find some great theaters such as the Teatro Niccolini ( the oldest one in Florence) or the Teatro della Pergola. There's a lot of dance performances, music concerts and theatre plays during the year. I believe it's always a nice experience watching one.

Cinema

Even though i must admit, the numbers of cinema are limited, it can still be a nice choice for a relaxing afternoon. If you speak Italian then perfect! you can immerse yourself more in the culture by watching Italian movies. And if you don't speak italian, then no problem! there's actually a few cinemas like the Odeon which offers films in their original language (mostly in English).

Shopping

If you're into fashion, then you should definitely go to La Rinascente, located on Piazza della Repubblica, in the center of Florence. This shopping center hosts a large range of brands in beauty, fashion and design. Italy's known for its fashion after all! Plus, the room terrace offers a wonderful view on the Duomo, perfect if you wish to take some pictures.
